Fostinoh is a 16-year-old from the Kipsongo slum, currently in Form 2.

Growing up, Fostinoh saw his mother abused by his father and was abused himself. With no food at home, he spent his days on the streets, scraping for food in dumpsters. His mother tried to keep him in school, but the cost of fees and supplies made it impossible, and he eventually dropped out, losing hope of continuing his education.

Everything changed in 2024, when Baskets and Beads Kenya met him and offered to sponsor his education. Fostinoh has left the streets behind and is a determined student. His biggest dream is to succeed in his studies and become a pilot, so he can one day move his mother and siblings out of the slum and build a better life for them. He wants to be proof to the other children there that it is possible to dream and succeed.

School has been paid for since 2024 through the Baskets and Beads Kenya student sponsorship program: fees, uniform, supplies, and mentorship from the Kenya team.

In Fostinoh’s words

“Since Baskets and Beads Kenya, I have been able to leave the street life, go to school, and be an example to other kids in the slum.”
