Sharon Lele

Dresses & dog bandanas

She produces dresses and dog bandanas and earns a stable income.

“Baskets and Beads has helped me get a market for my products, and now I am able to take care of my family.”

Sharon was born and raised in the Kipsongo slum. As a young girl, home life was so difficult that she ran away to the streets, but life there was dangerous and unwelcoming. She returned to the slum and joined others scavenging for food from dumpsters. She was eventually taken in by a kind stranger and placed in a group home, where she learned how to sew.

When she heard about the Baskets and Beads group she was thrilled to join. She is now part of the tailoring group, making dresses and dog bandanas. Her life has changed dramatically since she found a place to show her talent and earn an income. She can provide for her family, and her dream is to give her children the best education and move them out of the Kipsongo slum.

In Sharon’s words

“To move out of the slum and have a safe place for my children.”
