- CLASS: Form 4
- My name is Fridah, I am 18 years old.
- I grew up in Cherangany.
- Baskets and Beads Kenya has sponsored my education since 2024.

- Before Baskets and Beads Kenya my education had come to a stop for my Aunt who was paying for me refused to pay.
- Since Baskets and Beads Kenya I have been able to go back to school and pursue my dreams, I know that I will achieve all I put my mind to.
In December 2023, we met Fridah, an 18-year-old girl facing immense stress. Her aunt, who had been her guardian and was paying her school fees, had suddenly told her to leave their home and had withdrawn her financial support. Fridah's mother, a single parent with five children and no work, was unable to provide for her or even feed her.
Fridah explained that her aunt had become jealous because she was performing exceptionally well in school, often outperforming the aunt's own children. As a result, the aunt hid all of Fridah's academic transcripts, making it difficult for her to enroll elsewhere.
Despite these challenges, we were able to enroll her in our sponsorship program. Through God's grace, we found a school willing to accept her without the transcripts. Fridah began her new term in January 2024 and is now preparing to sit for her national exams in November. Her dream is to become a doctor.

- I grew up in Namanjalala settlement.
- I am waiting to join University.
- Baskets and Beads Kenya has sponsored my education since 2021.
- My dream is to be Medical lecturer.
- Before Baskets and Beads Kenya I was I had no dreams and hope of going to the university.
- Since Baskets and Beads Kenya I have been able to finish my High school diploma and now I have been accepted into the University to study Bachelors of Science in Criminology and Security Studies.
In 2023, we met June, a resilient 20-year-old girl whose family had lost everything in a devastating flood. Her father had abandoned the family, leaving her mother to care for three children with no home and no food. To survive, June's mother was forced to beg for food.
Due to a lack of funds for school fees and supplies, June could not attend school. She was at an age where many girls in her community face a difficult choice, often lured by men who offer basic necessities like food and sanitary pads in exchange for sex. These relationships often lead to teenage pregnancy.
However, June held onto the belief that one day she would return to school, pursue her education, and become a medical officer.
After meeting her in 2023, we enrolled June in a sponsorship program. Last year, she successfully completed her high school diploma with excellent grades. To further her skills, she also finished a course in computer applications earlier this year.
Now, June is preparing to join the university this September to continue her studies. A hardworking and dedicated young woman, her greatest dream is to help her mother rise out of poverty and build a house they can call their own.

Melody and Oliver, our newest sponsorship additions, have already shown incredible strength and resilience. In January, their mother, a member of our BnB program, tragically passed away due to complications from diabetes.
For three years, she struggled to manage her illness. The high cost of medical treatment and medication meant she often had to miss insulin injections. She also faced the daily challenge of traveling to the hospital for her shots because she lacked electricity at home and couldn’t store the insulin in a cool place.
After their mother's passing, Melody and Oliver had nowhere to live and moved in with their aunt. Through our sponsorship program, they are now able to attend school and receive daily meals and other necessities.
Melody, who is in Grade 9, and Oliver, in Grade 3, are full of courage and determination. Despite the hardships they’ve faced, we are committed to helping them achieve their dreams.

A Story of Determination: Rebecca's Journey
Rebecca, a 17-year-old student at St. Columban School, is a young woman of remarkable resilience. As the eldest of five children, her childhood has been marked by significant challenges. With a father battling alcoholism, her mother has worked tirelessly to provide for the family, but the financial strain made it impossible to afford Rebecca's education.
After excelling in her Class 8 examinations, Rebecca faced a heartbreaking reality: she could not join high school. The high costs of school fees and other requirements forced her to stay home for an entire term. Undeterred, she spent this time working alongside her mother, cleaning houses to help put food on the table.
In May 2023, we were fortunate to meet Rebecca. Despite having missed a full term of school, she was not discouraged. Her burning desire to continue her education remained, a testament to her strength of character. We are incredibly proud of her, as many girls her age in similar situations are forced into early marriage or teen pregnancy. Rebecca, however, was resolute in her belief that education was the key to a better future.
Thanks to the support she has received, Rebecca is now in Form 3, diligently working to catch up with her peers. She dreams of becoming a doctor, and we have no doubt that her hard work and determination will help her achieve this goal. We are immensely proud of the young woman she has become.
Thank you for your invaluable support, which has made all the difference in her life.

Meet Sharlene and Winnie, two sisters whose lives have been transformed through sponsorship. We learned about them during a women's conference in December and were moved by their story of courage and determination.
Before being sponsored, the girls faced immense hardship. Their father, who struggled with alcoholism, was abusive toward their mother. When they were sent home from school because their mother couldn't afford the fees, they had to drop out. To help their family, they joined their mother on the streets, selling boiled eggs and tea. This was an incredibly difficult and dangerous time for them, as they sometimes faced physical abuse and the constant risk of falling victim to early marriage, unwanted pregnancy, or exploitation.
Despite these challenges, the sisters remained hopeful. With encouragement from their mother, they were determined to get back to school and build a better life for themselves and their family.
We are so grateful that they are now safe and back in the classroom, where they belong. Sharlene is in Form 3, and Winnie is in Form 2. Their dream is to get a good education so they can lift their family out of poverty and one day serve as role models, helping other vulnerable girls in their community.
They are incredibly happy and grateful for the support that has made this new beginning possible.
